Briefly: Andrew Bailey and Craig Breslow are scheduled to throw to hitters Friday. Rich Harden will throw either Friday or Saturday. … Cliff Pennington is slated to make his first start Sunday. Geren said it’s still a possibility Pennington could play defense in a game before then. … Ryan Sweeney is still scheduled to get his first start in the outfield early next week. … Yesterday Geren said he’d prefer to keep Chris Carter in the outfield, but he needed a first baseman today since Daric Barton has a scheduled off day and Conor Jackson has played in consecutive games. … Lots of base running drills this morning after a few blunders on the bases in yesterday’s game. Geren and Co. are not too fond of trading an out for a run to end an inning, no matter the score. As bench coach Joel Skinner pointed out, handing away an out like that often times makes the difference between an opposing team having to use another pitcher.
